چکیده

Travel demand emerges from individual decisions. These decisions, depending on individual objectives, preferences, experiences and spatial knowledge about travel, are both heterogeneous and evolutionary. Research emerging from fields such as road pricing and ATIS requires travel demand models that are able to consider travelers with distinct attributes (value of time (VOT), willingness to pay, travel budgets, etc.) and behavioral preferences (e.g. willingness to switch routes with potential savings) in a differentiated market (by tolls and the level of service). Traditional trip-based models have difficulty in dealing with the aforementioned heterogeneity and issues such as equity. Moreover, the role of spatial information, which has significant influence on decision-making and travel behavior, has not been fully addressed in existing models. To bridge the gap, this paper proposes to explicitly model the formation and spreading of spatial knowledge among travelers. An Agent-based Route Choice (ARC) model was developed to track choices of each decision-maker on a road network over time and map individual choices into macroscopic flow pattern. ARC has been applied on both SiouxFalls network and University of Minnesota, Department of Civil Engineering, 500 Pillsbury Drive SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 USA Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Oregon State University, 220 Owen Hall, Corvallis, OR 97331

On Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models

There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...

User-based Vehicle Route Guidance in Urban Networks Based on Intelligent Multi Agents Systems and the ANT-Q Algorithm

Guiding vehicles to their destination under dynamic traffic conditions is an important topic in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Nowadays, many complex systems can be controlled by using multi agent systems. Adaptation with the current condition is an important feature of the agents. In this research, formulation of dynamic guidance for vehicles has been investigated based...

Pedestrians' Route Choice Model for Shopping Behavior

This paper presents an agent-based model to address the pedestrian route choice problem in shopping malls. Route choice in shopping malls may be defined by a number of causal factors. Shoppers may follow a pre-defined schedule, they may be influenced by other people walking, or may want to get a glimpse of a familiar shopping. The route choice process assumes that the cost of each route can be ...

Modelling Driver Interdependent Behaviour in Agent-Based Traffic Simulations for Disaster Management

Accurate modelling of driver behaviour in evacuations is vitally important in creating realistic training environments for disaster management. However, few current models have satisfactorily incorporated the variety of factors that affect driver behaviour. In particular, the interdependence of driver behaviours is often seen in real-world evacuations, but is not represented in current state-of...

A Multi - Agent Approach to Dynamic Traffic Assignment Based on Activity

The road choice behavior of travelers is closely related to their activity planning and location choice. This approach has led to the increasing development of multi-agent and activity-oriented modeling. This work attempts to model travelers’ dynamic departure time/route/destination choice behavior in a queuing network. In this respect, we propose an activity-based predictive dynamic traffic as...

Visualization of Crowd Flow in Large-scale Facility Using Agent-based Simulation

ABSTRACT: To prevent crowd accidents in large-scale facilities that are available to the general public, it is important to share information on safety measures among organizers, the police, the fire department, and government officials. In this study, we present a crowd simulation system that is capable of sharing visual information on the estimated flow of the crowd and that can be used when ...
